By Kimberly WrightA summary of events from March through December of 2004: In March we held two events. The first was our Wild Rice Dinner at the Elkhorn Yacht Club, featuring native American foods from the White Earth project and prepared by Lynn Sheehan. Our second March gathering was an American-Irish Dinner featuring corned grassfed beef from PL Bar Ranch and pickled Niman Ranch pork, accompanied by a root vegetable and barley stew, traditional breads and desserts. May saw our annual celebration of the opening of Salmon season. In June Lloyd Martin led a hands-on Breadmaking workshop, followed by a Salad Potluck. In July we joined with members of the Open Space Alliance of Santa Cruz County for a farm dinner at Thomas Farm. Our hosts were convivium members Jean & Jerry Thomas. We dined on barbecued pastured chicken & local salmon and produce from the farm and other small local producers, including Santa Cruz Mountain wine. None of our food was raised more than 25 miles from the farm. August Campania Dinner September Gujarati Fundraiser October 3M & ALBA Event November Wild Farm Alliance at the Phil Foster Ranch In December, I made a Slow Cassoulet using locally grown ingredients as my holiday gift to the convivium.
